This medical exhibit consists of six illustrations. The first illustration shows a normal healthy 27 week old fetus with a placenta and umbilical cord. The fetus is drawn semi-transparently so that it's abdominal and thoracic organs and brain are visible. The second illustration depicts a baby at 27 weeks gestation. The skin will be drawn semi-transparently so that the internal organs are visible. The anescara, scalp edema, pleural effusions, pericardial effusions, enormous ascites, hepatosplenomegaly, cerebral edema, constriction of vessels in the brain, raised diaphragm and placental edema. The third illustration is an enlarged view of the brain from the first illustration. The fourth illustration is an enlarged view of the brain from the second illustration. A caption states that due to the anemia, a reduced amount of oxygen is reaching the brain. The fifth illustration is a closeup of a cluster of normal healthy alveoli. The sixth illustration is a closeup of the baby’s alveoli at birth. It is apparent that there are far fewer alveoli and they are much smaller.
