L5-S1 Traumatic Disk Herniation with Decompression and Fusion with Instrumentation

This is a single board exhibit that includes pre-operative, post-operative, and four images of the decompression and fusion surgery.rnrnThe first image is a sagittal color interpretation and actual film inset of the patient’s lumbar spine. The disc herniation at L5-S1 is highlighted and labeled.rnrnThe next four images describe the surgery. The first image shows the location of the bilateral posterolateral incisions made to both sides of the L5-S1 junction in a style known as the Wiltse approach. The second image depicts the left hemilaminectomy, disc removal, and insertion of the Peek implant into the newly created space. The third illustrates the insertion of the pedicle screws and rods to either side of L5-S1. The last step shows the placement of bone graft to the right side of the fusion hardware.rnrnThe last image depicts the post-operative condition of the patient with a color interpretation and actual film inset highlighting the Peek implant and posterior fusion hardware in place.
