This medical exhibit features two large anterior cut-away views of the abdomen of a generic 19-year-old white male figure comparing normal anatomy with the condition in this case. The first image clearly shows the proper size, structure and location of the various abdominal organs including the bowel. The second image reveals an internal hernia of the bowel with the jejunum and mesentery herniated between the lesser curvature of the stomach and the liver and having twisted on its stalk forming a volvulus with ischemia of the jejunum. The ileum and cecum are pulled up into the right upper quadrant with severe dilation of the right colon. Dilation of the rectum is also be shown.
