Vascular Disruption Following Spinal Realignment

This medical exhibit compares the pre-operative and post-operative conditions after spinal realignment. The posterior spinal processes are removed to offer a clear view into the spinal canal. This view reveals the spinal cord and posterior spinal arteries running longitudinally through the spinal canal. These spinal arteries will be nice and red in the pre-operative image, but the spinal artery on the side of the angulation deformity are shown blue in the post-operative image to symbolize the loss of bloodflow through this vessel. Also, inset enlargements of the spine are included to show the stretching injury to the spinal arteries caused by the dramatic realignment.
