Surgical Reconstruction of the Mandible

ID: exh6105c
This medical exhibit demonstrates a follow-up surgical reconstruction of the mandible from a former injury and reconstruction. The first image orients the viewer to the region and extent of the injury and initial repair. Image two details an osteotomy performed to bridge the bone gap between the mandibular condyle and the mandibular body. The mandibular body is cut in split thickness and mobilized to close the gap. The final image demonstrates how the distraction device is anchored to the pins to keep the mobilized bone in place to heal.
