Cervical Discectomy

ID: exh40697
This stock medical exhibit depicts a C5-6 anterior cervical discectomy and fusion procedure. The first illustration is a sagittal view of the cervical spine showing the pre-operative condition. Also shown is a superior view of C5-6 clearly revealing the C5-6 disc herniation. There are four steps of the operative procedure illustrated, beginning with the incision to expose the cervical vertebrae. Next shows the removal of the C5-6 intervertebral disc. Then using a high speed drill, the vertebral endplates of C5-6 are drilled down in preparation for the graft. Finally bone allograft is placed in the empty disc space to complete the fusion.
