Thoracic Burst Fracture with Surgical Fusion

This exhibit consists of a single board depicting the pre-operative condition and surgical steps related to a thoracic burst fracture.rnThe first image is a film interpretation of the patient’s pre-operative condition alongside an inset of the actual film. The second image depicts the initial lateral incision and removal of the underlying rib. The third shows the exposed spine with the burst fracture and discectomies being performed above and below the damaged vertebra. The fourth shows the fragments of the damaged vertebra being completely removed. The fifth image illustrates the insertion of a cage to support the surrounding vertebrae. The final image is a film interpretation showing the placement of a plate and screws to hold the cage in place. There is also a film insert showing the plate, cage, and screws from an anterior view.
