Persistent Lumbar Pain with Surgical Fusion and Placement of Electronic Bone Stimulator

ID: exh5290b
This stock medical exhibit shows persistent lumbar pain with surgical fusion and placement of an electronic bone stimulator. The first illustration is a posterior view of the lower back, indicating the area of recurrent pain. The second illustration shows the L5-S1 disc from above, including recurrent herniation of remaining disc material with left nerve root impingement. The third illustration shows the first step in the procedure, in which a midline incision is made into the lower back from L4-S2. A left hip bone graft harvest site incision is also indicated. The fourth illustration shows the performance of a discectomy at L5-S1, decompressing the left nerve root. The fifth illustration shows the harvesting of the bone graft from the left hip. The sixth illustration shows the placement of the fusion hardware (pedicle screws, Dyna-Lok plates), bone graft and bone stimulator into the spine.
