ID: exh80669
This exhibit includes a single board describing a microdiscectomy completed at L3-4 and L4-5. The first illustration shows a midline incision over an orientation view of the entire spine. The next four illustrations depict surgical steps taken to remove the affected discs.rnrnThe first shows how the vertebrae are exposed by the original incision by further dissection. In the next illustration, the ligamentum flavum is removed. Then, a portion of the lamina is removed at each level in order to access the discs. This image shows how the discs are pushing against the spinal cord. In the last step shown, the discs are removed through the removed lamina spaces, freeing the spinal nerves.
