Abdominal Compartment Syndrome with Surgical Laparotomy and Eviseration
Abdominal Compartment Syndrome with Surgical Laparotomy and Eviseration
This exhibit begins with one anterior cut-away view of the abdomen. The cut-away view of the abdominal wall shows severe swelling of the soft tissues. Multiple arrows point inward representing the massive increase of intra-abdominal pressure caused by this swelling and by the fluid in the abdomen. Text describes how the traumatized abdominal musculature is causing severe compression of the abdominal organs. Also, the dramatic surgical procedure to decompress the abdomen is illustrated. These images include the creation of the large abdominal incision allowing the intestines to protrude out of the body through the incision, and the application of the large bag with staples to allow the bowels to remain herniated out of the abdomen following the procedure.
